RTP and volatility explained, in pesos
What RTP and volatility really mean on SCATTER789 slots, with peso examples: expected loss per session, hit frequency and how to match a game to your budget.

Two numbers tell you more about a slot than any trailer or theme: its RTP and its volatility. Here is what they mean, worked through with real peso amounts.
RTP: what the game pays back
Return to player (RTP) is the percentage of all money wagered on a game that it pays back over a huge number of spins. A 96% RTP means that, over millions of spins, the game returns ₱96 for every ₱100 bet. The other ₱4 is the house edge.
RTP is an expected value, a long-run average. It does not tell you what will happen in one evening.
What RTP means for your session
Your expected loss depends on how much you wager in total, not how much you deposit. Turnover adds up fast because winnings get re-bet.
| Bet per spin | Spins | Total wagered | Expected loss at 96% RTP | At 94% RTP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₱10 | 300 | ₱3,000 | ₱120 | ₱180 |
| ₱20 | 300 | ₱6,000 | ₱240 | ₱360 |
| ₱50 | 300 | ₱15,000 | ₱600 | ₱900 |
Two lessons: a two-point difference in RTP raises your expected loss by half, and bet size matters more than anything else.

Volatility: how the game pays
Volatility (or variance) describes how wins are spread out. Two games with the same 96% RTP can feel completely different:
- Low volatility: frequent small wins, rare big ones. Your balance moves slowly. Good for small budgets and long sessions.
- Medium volatility: a balance of regular wins and occasional features.
- High volatility: long dry spells broken by large wins, usually in free spins. You need a bigger budget to reach the bonus.
Matching volatility to your budget
A simple rule: your session budget should cover at least 100 to 200 spins on a high-volatility game, or 50 to 100 on a low-volatility one.
| Session budget | Low volatility bet | High volatility bet |
|---|---|---|
| ₱500 | ₱5 to ₱10 | ₱2 to ₱5 |
| ₱1,000 | ₱10 to ₱20 | ₱5 to ₱10 |
| ₱3,000 | ₱30 to ₱60 | ₱15 to ₱30 |

Where to find a game's RTP
Open the game's information or paytable screen and look for "RTP" or "theoretical return". Some providers release the same game with several RTP settings, so check the number inside the game you are playing. Testing bodies such as eCOGRA audit that published RTPs are accurate.
RTP across game types
For comparison, the Banker bet in baccarat returns about 98.9%, and European roulette returns 97.3%. Details are in live baccarat and roulette basics. Sports bets work differently, through the bookmaker's margin, explained in the odds guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does a higher RTP mean I will win?
No. It means you are expected to lose less over time. In a single session anything can happen.
Is high volatility better?
Neither is better. High volatility suits larger budgets and patience; low volatility suits smaller budgets.
Do bonuses change RTP?
Not the game's RTP, but wagering requirements change how much you must bet and so your expected loss.
