Live baccarat and roulette basics
Rules, payouts and house edge for live baccarat and roulette on SCATTER789: Banker vs Player vs Tie, European vs American roulette, and bets to avoid.

Live casino games stream a real dealer and table to your phone. Baccarat and roulette are the two most popular with Filipino players, and both are simple to learn. The difference between a smart bet and a poor one comes down to the house edge.
Baccarat: how a hand works
You bet on which hand will finish closer to 9: Player or Banker, or on a Tie. Cards 2 to 9 count face value, aces count 1, and tens and face cards count 0. If the total is more than 9, only the last digit counts, so 7 + 8 = 15 counts as 5. The dealer follows fixed drawing rules, so you make no decisions after betting. The game's full history and rules are in this baccarat reference.
Baccarat bets compared
| Bet | Pays | House edge (8 decks) |
|---|---|---|
| Banker | 1:1 less 5% commission | about 1.06% |
| Player | 1:1 | about 1.24% |
| Tie | 8:1 | about 14.36% |
A ₱1,000 Banker win pays ₱950 after commission. Some tables use "no commission" rules where a Banker win on 6 pays half. Check the table rules, because the edge changes.

Side bets and patterns
Pairs, Dragon Bonus and similar side bets pay well but usually carry edges far above the main bets. Scoreboards (bead plate, big road) record past results, but each hand is independent, so patterns do not predict the next one.
Roulette: European vs American
A European wheel has 37 pockets (1 to 36 plus a single 0). An American wheel adds a 00, making 38. That one pocket nearly doubles the house edge. See the roulette article for wheel layouts.
| Wheel | Pockets | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| European | 37 | 2.70% |
| French (with La Partage) | 37 | 1.35% on even-money bets |
| American | 38 | 5.26% |
Roulette bets and payouts
- Straight up (one number): 35:1
- Split (two numbers): 17:1
- Dozen or column: 2:1
- Red/black, odd/even, 1–18/19–36: 1:1
On a European wheel every bet has the same 2.70% edge. Choosing between them changes how bumpy the ride is, not the long-run cost.

Betting systems do not beat the edge
Martingale (doubling after each loss) looks safe until a losing streak meets the table limit. Starting at ₱100, seven losses in a row means a ₱12,800 bet just to win back ₱100. No system changes the house edge. Set a session budget instead, using our budget guide.
Live table etiquette and tips
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection. Bets placed after the timer closes will not count.
- Check the table minimum and maximum before sitting.
- Decide your session limit and stick to it. Live games move fast.
Compare these edges with slots in RTP and volatility explained. If you are new, start with the beginner's guide and the sign-up walkthrough, and read bonus terms carefully, since live games often count less toward wagering.
Frequently asked questions
Should I always bet Banker?
Banker has the lowest house edge in standard baccarat, but it still has an edge. Nothing guarantees a win.
Is live roulette fairer than digital roulette?
Both are fair when licensed and tested. Live roulette uses a physical wheel; digital roulette uses a certified RNG.
Why is the Tie bet so tempting?
It pays 8:1, but a tie happens only about 9.5% of the time, which gives an edge above 14%.
